A few new links:

  • Letter From Here: the best Madison blog I’ve seen, consistently providing great photos and historical anecdotes about Isthmusopolis, interleaved with general agitation about the state of the world.
  • Light Reading: I think the first time I saw Jenny Davidson was in a condom-themed production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in college. Now she’s an English professor at Columbia and a novelist, blogging about books, bikes, animals, etc.
  • Lacunae: Douglas Wolk, authority on rock music and comics, blogs on these subjects. Much of what I understand about music stems from a mix tape Douglas made for Elizabeth Wilmer in the summer of 1987. (Key tracks: “Blitzkrieg Bop,” the Ramones; “You’re my Favorite Waste of Time,” Marshall Crenshaw: “I Got a Message For You,” Robyn Hitchcock.)
  • Crooked Timber: a big famous group blog which doesn’t need this link, but does feature my friend Eszter Hargittai and fellow UW-Madison professor Harry Brighouse.  And which recently presented this amazingly great post about literary criticism and Skrulls.

And now, Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians perform “I Got a Message For You” (and two other classics) in Detroit in 1988:
